When Keith Wenning caught a 17 yard pass from Jamill Smith in the second quarter of last Tuesday's 52-27 crushing of Ohio, no one knew it would be the last play Ball State's starting QB would play in the regular season.
Wenning, who left the game with an ankle injury as a result of the play, will be out for Friday's season finale against Miami of Ohio. The QB injured his ankle on the play and will be in a boot for two weeks per Coach Pete Lembo.
Wenning though, won't be the only Cardinal sidelined for the game.
Ball State will be without the services of two starting offensive linemen in OG Jordan Hansel and OT Austin Holtz. Also out for the game will be part time starter Brian Jones at S.
One other major cog that could be missing in the Cardinals offense is WR Smith. The 5-8 138 dynamo is also listed as doubtful (or as Lembo put it "Highly Doubtful") for the game.
In their places will be a slew of capable backups.
Kelly Page will get the start in his final regular season game at QB. The 5th Year senior filled in successfully for Wenning in the second half of last week's victory.
Also slated to play will be OG Chris Sparrow and OT Matthew Page, and if Smith cannot go, look for the coming out party for FR. WR Kevonn Mabon, who has come on well in the second half of the season.
